Mining and Exploration: How is lithium mined?

There is two options to mine lithium, hard-rock, and liquid extraction. For example the primary method of lithium extraction is mineral liquid brine. Specifically this mineral rich liquid brine is typically found at high altitudes, and at depth of 10 meters below the surface.

First the drilling process starts and then pumping of the liquid brine to surface evaporation pools. Then the liquid is left in the evaporation pools for a few months. The result is a salty mud mixture of manganese, potassium, borax and lithium salts. Next the mud moves to another open air evaporation pool for 12-18 months. Finally the distillation process is finished and the extraction of lithium carbonate can occur.

Now the lithium carbonate can be used in the lithium ion batteries and processed into lithium hydroxide.

For example the liquid method is most popular in the “Lithium Triangle” of Chile, Bolivia and Argentina. Thus the popularity of liquid extraction is driven by low cost and high yields. However the process requires a large amount of water.

One of Blue Sky’s main objectives as a eco-enterprise mining company to develop the most efficient lithium extracting technology on the planet. We pride ourselves at the forefront of water efficiency and green energy production.

ESG focus prospecting & development on reduce water consumption and carbon footprint.

Blue Sky Lithium Mining Operations

The majority of mining and extract for Blue Sky occurs in the the lithium triangle of South America.

Blue Sky Lithium Mining Locations and Refinery :

  1. ATACAMA DESERT, Chile. The Atacama Desert of Chile is known as the Saudi Arabia of the electric vehicle industry. It is one of the largest lithium reserves in the world with 8 million tons of lithium reserves. Blue Sky has 2 mines in the Atacamam desert and direct source from 3 additional mining companies.
  2. Northwest Argentina. The Lithium Triangle, including parts of northwestern Argentina, produces about half of the world’s lithium. Blue Sky Lithium has 2 mines located in the Northwest of Argentina. We have 2 more mines opening the end of 2022.
  3. Salar de Uyuni Bolivia. Bolivia contains the world’s richest reserves of lithium, and Blue Sky has 3 mines operating in the region. We also have 3 more mines coming online in 2023.

Blue Sky Lithium Mining and Brazil “lithium safe haven”

Blue Sky Lithium most active location for mining expansion is Brazil. Recent changes in the mining and export laws of Brazil have made this country the new “lithium safe haven”for white gold.

First Brazil’s lovation of focus is Minas Gerais State, a mining-friendly state, in the municipalities of Araçuaí and Itinga. They are approximately 400km northeast of the state capital, Belo Horizonte.

We are actively sourcing new mines as well as abandon iron and coper mines as well.

Second is major lithium deposits about 4 hours drive from beach resort port of Fortaleza. the two areas of focus with new exploration at Solonopole and Iguatu.

The focus of Brazil lithium mines is hard rock. Additionally Blue Sky Lithium is also in the process of creating a small lithium refinery in Brazil. The refinery will increase our profits and reduce shipments to China for processing of lithium for battery manufacturing.

New Brazil Pilot Pit “Hard Rock” Mining and Exploration

Blue Sky Lithium has begun new pilot pit preparation and exploration in 2 new mining sites in the Northeast of Brazil for 2023.

Due to the overwhelming demand of battery grade lithium hydroxide we must expedite the opening of the new mines and refineries in South America to start 2023.

2023 Starts with a Bang Blue Sky Lithium Mining

Additionally Blue Sky has a competitive advantage being located in the heart to of the largest deposits of “white gold”. This prime location allows Blue Sky Lithium Mining to reduce cost, faster logistics and higher production.
